9/100 Embroidery

I am a big fan of embroidery, vintage or new.

This is a painting of a framed piece of embroidery we have hanging in our front hall. The first time I spied it, it was hanging in the home of my husband’s grandparents. We had flown across the country with Brett’s family to see them shortly before we were married. I was pretty nervous about meeting them for the first time. When walking into their home, this was one of the first things I saw. I was at once put at ease, and instantly smitten with the piece.

It stayed on my mind for years.

After Brett’s grandfather passed away, his grandma moved here to be closer to her family. She was down sizing and I asked my mother-in-law if I could have this piece. I had no idea that she had embroidered it herself for her parents. That made it all the more special to me.

Today it hangs in such a way that it is often the first thing I see in the morning. I love the colors and shapes of the flowers. It always puts me in a good mood to catch a glimpse of it from my bed, or when I pass by the hallway.
